Natural protected territories

There are a lot of natural protected territories in Russia. Specially protected territories are objects of national property that have nature-conservative, scientific and cultural value. These territories include state natural reserves, national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, dendrology parks and botanical gardens, as well as health resorts.

There are about 99 state natural reserves in Russia, which include sea areas and land areas. Most of them have international status of biospheric reserves; some of them have diplomas of the Council of Europe. Their main aim is preservation of biological variety of Russia.

National parks have been established in Russia beginning from 1983, so it is comparatively new form of wildlife protection. There are 35 national parks in Russia. Every year thousands of tourists making tours in Russia visit these wonderful parks. Most of the national parks have a lot of archeological monuments of different epochs.

Dendrology parks and botanical gardens are under the jurisdiction of Russia Academy of Sciences. They both carry out special tasks, such as the creation of special collections of plants for preservation of variety and also for enrichment of flora.
